History in the country
Initially present in the Philippines through regional projects under the aegis of the “ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE),” we became active in the country in the early 1990s, with around fifteen references mainly in the development of renewable energies and rural electrification. As an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, the Philippines has a decentralized electricity system and distribution managed by about 120 electrification cooperatives, offering favorable conditions for the development of our diverse businesses. In 2018, in addition to our consulting and engineering activities, we partnered with Philippine investors and partners (REURASIA) to create BRED, a company dedicated to developing renewable energy plants on the island of Busuang.
Team
BRED has a permanent team in the Philippines with expertise in the development, engineering, and operational support of biomass power plants. BRED’s managers bring extensive experience in the electricity and energy sector, combining technical, institutional, and renewable energy expertise. Over the years, we have built a broad network of experts capable of working on both studies and construction projects.
Projects
- Conducted a study under the FSAPS (Fund for Studies and Assistance to the Private Sector) for the development of renewable energies to electrify the island of Busuanga, on behalf of the Provincial Government of Palawan (2015-2018). This study led to the creation of BRED, which remains active in developing, constructing, and operating a renewable energy plant based on biomass and associated plantations.
- Provided technical assistance to the National Electrification Administration (NEA) of the Philippines within the framework of the Electric Cooperative Reform Project financed by the World Bank. The project aimed to improve performance and strengthen joint ventures for renewable energy production in electric cooperatives (2013-2014).
- Evaluated the impact of the PRES rural electrification project on Masbate Island, which provides microgrid and solar kit services to 18,000 households, managed by private operators in collaboration with MASELCO, the rural electrification cooperative. Established a 2-year action plan to ensure operational and financial viability. Funded by the French Ministry of Finance and the Department of Energy of the Philippines (2013).
- Conducted a study for the Master Plan for the Electrification of Isolated Rural Areas (EFF) over the period 2012-2016 for the Department of Energy (DoE) of the Philippines. Funded by the World Bank (2011).
- Provided technical assistance to a private investor for feasibility studies for the private development of small hydropower plants. Completed the study of the Lower Dugui small hydroelectric power plant (3.2 MW) on Catanduanes Island (2000-2005).
