Context

To meet the growing demand for electricity and support production from generation facilities, the Government of Cameroon has launched an investment program to upgrade public transmission networks. In this context, the World Bank is assisting the government by financing a series of electricity transmission projects. These initiatives aim to evacuate energy generated by the Nachtigal and Memve’ele dams and to strengthen both the South and North Interconnected Networks.

Activities & Results

We conducted feasibility studies, APS (Summary Preliminary Design), APD (Detailed Preliminary Design), and prepared tender documents for the construction of the interconnection between the South Interconnected Network (RIS) and the North Interconnected Network (RIN), including studies for interconnection with Nigeria and Chad. Our involvement included the following tasks:

  • Data collection, documentary review, and development of basic mapping
  • Electrical stability study: Conducting electrical simulations under different scenarios, followed by technical and economic evaluation to propose optimal solutions.
  • APS study of high-voltage lines and stations, distribution lines, cost estimates, and preliminary work phasing.
  • APD study of high-voltage lines, substations, and distribution lines, including quantity schedules, work phasing, and allotment proposals.
  • Drafting of tender documents based on the allotments and tender models, covering both technical and administrative sections.
  • Training of six individuals (from MINEE and SONATREL) over a month on production and transmission network software, including GAP and Power Factory.
